When children join a new class, they may be nervous and unsure about what to expect. Families want to know if they will be welcome and if the teachers will value their suggestions and appreciate their child. Use these tips to help ease transitions year-round and to get a new year off to a great start.

You don’t always get what you wish for; you get what you work for.

What would happen if everyone in the class were exactly the same? In what way does it make our class community better to be different from each other in some ways? (Note: Distribute the “Two Families” handout.) Read the handout silently. Then answer the questions at the end of the handout.

Reforms in 1999 set the maximum membership at 115, of whom 70 are individuals, 15 current Olympic athletes, 15 national Olympic committee presidents, and 15 international sports federation presidents. The members are elected to renewable eight-year terms, but they must retire at age 70.

Although the learning process has been a hot topic of various sciences, including neuroscience, psychology, pedagogy and the learning theory, the truth is that humankind has yet to discover the full array of factors involved. For the time being, learning is defined as a process that implies constantly altering the existing skills, behaviors and information by synthesizing and acquiring new types of information.

Such issues range from temporary glitches to chronic lack of motivation and low productivity. It can take what feels like extraordinary will-power to overcome these issues, but the important thing to remember is that they can be conquered with the right attitude.

Remember that you and your students are only human. You can plan, map, and research all summer, but once those kids get in the room anything can happen. You don’t have to have everything together on day one, said Amy Hirzel.

Bad exams happen. The most important thing you need to do is learn from them, so you don’t make the same mistake again. Give yourself a quick debrief – “work out what went wrong, and analyse why you didn’t do so well,” suggests studentbug.
